What you will need to make vegan hot chocolate
Drinking Chocolate: I used paleo friendly "Numi" drinking chocolate. It contains 65% dark chocolate and small amount of coconut sugar. It is crumbled real dark chocolate that makes the richest hot cocoa. You can use regular non-sweetened good quality cacao powder. Avoid cocoa powder (see the hint below*).
Oat Milk: Quality plant-based milk is a key to preparing a creamy vegan hot chocolate. I always recommend Oatly or Califia farms (barista blend).
Salt (optional): just a pinch of salt for an even fuller chocolate flavor.
Coconut Sugar: when using unsweetened plant-based milk, add some sugar to taste. Just double-check if your milk and cacao powder are not sweet. My drinkable chocolate type already had some added sugar, but I needed a little bit more for a sweeter taste.
Hint: for healthier hot chocolate always use real chocolate or cacao powder. Cacao powder is processed at a lower temperature and usually contains no refined sugars and other additives. Cocoa powders usually have lower quality and have added refined sugar.
How to make it
Pour - first, pour the needed amount of milk into the same cup you are going to enjoy your oat milk hot chocolate. This way you have the exact needed amount of liquid. Now, transfer the oat milk to a small saucepan and start heating it on low heat.
Add - after that add the measured amount of drinkable chocolate, coconut sugar, and salt.
Whisk - use a whisk to mix everything until the chocolate and sugar melt. Continue to stir over low-medium heat until it becomes steamy hot. Do not boil.
Enjoy - pour the hot oat milk hot chocolate back into your favorite cup. Enjoy as it is or with some whip cream on top.

Storage
Consumed prepared hot chocolate within 2 hours.
Life happens, and if you cannot enjoy prepared oat milk hot chocolate right away, pour it into a glass jar with the lid and store it in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Heat it back up in a microwave or a saucepan.
Favorite hot chocolate flavors to try
Orange: add a teaspoon of orange zest and few Tablespoons of orange juice. For even more orange flavor, use Lindt orange chocolate.
Mexican Spicy: add ¼ teaspoon of chili powder, pinch of cayenne and pinch of nutmeg to the saucepan.
Turmeric: adding turmeric will turn your hot chocolate into even healthier drink. Start with adding ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder and a pinch of black pepper to the saucepan for golden hot cocoa drink.
