Why you will love this papaya green smoothie

    • Sweet: it has just the right amount of sweetness, so you will not need to add any sugar or other sweeteners.
    • Vibrant color: this smoothie has a bright and beautiful green color.
    • Versatile: you can easily add here other fruits, nuts, or use a different kind of milk.
    • Convenience: great as breakfast or snack on the go.

You may also like our spinach smoothie with pineapple.

    Ingredients

Papaya green smoothie labeled ingredients: spinach, frozen papaya, milk, chlotophyl, green powder, banana, frozen mango and a half og lime juice.
    • Frozen Papaya: you can use frozen or fresh papaya. It is a big fruit that gets overripe fast, so I usually freeze my papaya after cutting it. Frozen papaya is perfect for smoothies and can be accessible at any time. Follow these instructions how to freeze fresh papaya.
    • Banana: fresh or frozen ripe medium-sized banana.
    • Frozen Mango: I buy frozen mango for my smoothies to keep them on hand. You can use a fresh one as well.
    • Baby Spinach: baby spinach will make the smoothie look bright green and it provides an extra serving of veggies. You can also use frozen spinach cubes prepared ahead of time.
    • Amazing Greens Powder: you can skip this ingredient, but I love to boost my green smoothies by adding "amazing greens powder". There are a lot of green powders out there and you can use any kind for this recipe.
    • Chlorophyll: chlorophyll is also optional in this recipe.
    • Lime Juice: most of the fruits in this smoothie are sweet. Adding some lime juice will give a hint of sourness to the drink.
    • Coconut Milk: any smoothie needs some liquid part to make it think enough to drink. I used coconut milk as a liquid to make the smoothie. You can use any other milk, coconut water, or filtered water.

See the recipe card below for the ingredients quantities.

    How to make it

Peel and gather all the fruits, green powder, lime juice, and coconut milk. Load everything into the blender container.

First, I usually pour the milk followed by the rest of the ingredients.

Process shot #1: overhead shot of a vitamix blender container with whole banana, some orange fruits and green powder.

Blend it on high for about 40-60 seconds or until all ingredients are blended and no chunks remaining.

If you notice that your smoothie is too thick, add more coconut milk. If it is too think, add some more frozen fruits.

Process shot #2: overhead shot of blender container with a green liquid drink in it.

Pour your smoothie into your favorite glass and enjoy immediately.

Process shot #3: close up shot of a green smoothie being poured into the glass from a blender container.

Hint: if you are using only fresh fruits, add ½ cup of ice (for the chill effect) and cut the milk quantity in half.

    Equipment

I used Vitamix blender to make this papaya green smoothie. You can use any other type of blender.

You will need measuring cups and spoons to measure the ingredients.

    Serving suggestions and variations

Serve this papaya smoothie as breakfast or a snack.

You can add some chia, hemp or flax seeds to the smoothie.

If you prefer to eat smoothies with a spoon, add less milk and serve it in a bowl with some granola on top.

    Storage

If you have any leftovers, I recommend pouring them into a freezer-safe container or a bag and storing them in the freezer.

Next time you make a smoothie - just add frozen leftovers back to your blender.

    Useful tips

    • Load the ingredients in this sequence: liquid ingredients and green powder, greens, fresh fruit, and lastly frozen fruits. This sequence will help the blender to break down fibers better to your drink creamy and smooth.
    • Start with low-medium speed to let the blades gradually work on the ingredients (especially when using frozen fruits). Finish making the smoothie by turning the blender on high for about 30 seconds.
    • Do not over blend: as soon as all ingredients are well blended and reached the desired smoothness and thickness, turn it off. Over blending may result in heating the ingredients, and your smoothie will lose its chill.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use different fruits to make this smoothie?

Sure, you can experiment with different fruits to suit your taste preferences and what you have available. For example, you might try adding kiwi, peach, pear or pineapple.

Can I store smoothie leftovers in the fridge?

Yes, you can refrigerate leftover smoothie, but make sure to consume it within 24 hours. Consider blending it again with some ice if you love your smoothies iced cold. If it separates, stir it before drinking it.

That's awesome you were able to use aging papaya, they overripe so fast. I also like to freeze my papaya to have it on hand for smoothies. I am very glad you liked the smoothie. Thank you for the review!
