Ingredients needed
You can find the ingredient quantities in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Potatoes: I recommend using Russet potatoes (ideal for a crispier texture) or Yukon Gold potatoes (hold their shape and have a creamier texture inside).
- Oil: I used extra virgin olive oil for this recipe. You can use avocado oil or any vegetable oil.
- Seasonings: I used salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
How to make it
1. Wash and slice the potatoes: wash the potatoes well. Peel them and remove any dark spots. Using a sharp knife, slice each potato into ¼-inch thick rounds. I do not like making them too thin, because we are not making potato chips.
2. Pat dry each slice. Pat dry each potato slice with a paper towel on both sides. This step will make them crispier.
3. Season potato slices. Add potato sliced in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle them with olive oil. Sprinkle them with salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Use your hands to distribute the seasoning and to ensure each slice is evenly coated.
4. Air fry at 400°F. Arrange seasoned potato slices in a preheated air fryer basket in a single layer.Air fry potato slices for about 16 minutes, flipping them half way through the cooking time. They are cooked when fork tender inside and crispy golden outside.
Nataliia's Tips
- Cut them into thick slices. Ideally, they should be ⅓-1/4 inch thick.
- I prefer peeling the potatoes for this recipe.
- Cook them in batches if needed.
- Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days
Toppings ideas and variations
- Spicy: add about ¼ teaspoons of cayenne pepper or ½ of chili powder to the seasoning mix.
- Cajun: toss them in Cajun seasoning before air frying.
- Italian herb: add about one teaspoon of dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, parsley, lavender).
- Loaded: just before serving, top them with sour cream, shredded cheese, green onions, and crumbled bacon.
- Greek-style: after they are cooked, top them with feta cheese, diced tomatoes, kalamata olives, and tzatziki sauce.
- Parmesan: sprinkle crispy potato slices with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley.
